New London airport - right on the water

The idea of placing the airport as close as possible to the business centre of London had been in the mind of architects since the 30s of XX century. After 100 years, this bold idea has become a reality. New London Britannia Airport was built in the Thames estuary.

The terminals are placed on giant floating platforms and connected via underwater tunnels. A unique feature of the project is that most of the energy required is generated by water turbines, located in the immediate vicinity of the floating runways. Because of its proximity to the centre of a populous city, a special emphasis is placed on airport security systems, first of all - the protection of intelligent control systems.
