New-York 2050

By 2050 the tallest buildings may be over 50km, again almost exclusively for space travel, and space ports will be more common. Many residents will be androids, but there will also be new biological creatures, genetically designed and lab-assembled, and some might be able to talk and interact well with people, with part of their intelligence based in the cloud.

These will start to replace conventional pets, so we might see androids taking Furbies for walks. Ground and building transport will be almost entirely pod based, and elevators might also be replaced by such pods using internals shafts and external surfaces. People will have minds linked to the net so will be able to communicate telepathically with each other and with machines.

With a lot of things happening virtually, people might sit or stand still for ages while doing things in virtual worlds instead.

Christopher Garrard I don't see space towers being constructed in the future. The enormous costs are just not worth it for something that doesn't help that much with getting into orbit, as it does nothing for horizontal velocity. Fully reusable rockets are already becoming a thing, and launch-to-orbit costs will likely be below $50/kg by 2050. The same technology that you use to build a space tower could be used to build an orbital ring, which would be far more useful, although it wouldn't be complete by 2050.
